Sexting

Sexting definitely exists in the Maldives, though its true extent is not known. From the many incidents of nude photos of Maldivian girls appearing in ‘oriyaan’ sites, it is apparent that sexting is not that rare either in the country. There is at least one reported case in which a young lady lost her government job after her nude photos were leaked by her ex-boyfriend.

For those who are hearing the word for the first time, sexting is a new word recently coined by joining ‘sex’ and ‘texting.’ It refers to the act of sending sexually explicit messages or photos electronically, primarily between cell phones. Sexting was reported as early as 2005 in the Sunday Telegraph Magazine, and has since been described as taking place worldwide.

In January 2009, a survey of 1200 teenagers in America reported that one in five had sent explicit photos of themselves. A social danger with sexting is that material can be very easily and widely promulgated, over which the originator has no control. It is rather easy for explicit photos to end up in wrong hands because often what was once the right hand could also become the wrong hand, when he turns into an estranged and jealous boyfriend.

According to a CBS report in January 2009, three teenage girls who allegedly sent nude or semi-nude cell phone pictures of themselves and three male classmates in a western Pennsylvania high school who received them, are charged with child pornography. In October a Texas eighth-grader spent the night in a juvenile detention center after his football coach found a nude picture on his cell phone that a fellow student sent him.

Sexting is dominant today in Maldives. Perhaps not the photo that much, but the texts and talks. the mig33 is perhaps one of the most popular. But i think photo and video with the introduction of MMS is getting popular day by day. I do not know much on the things they do, but from what i hear and see, lot of people spend their time alone with phone either staring at the screen in chat rooms or with headsets on mysterious calls.
There is so little to entertain them anyway in today's society, so one can't really blam them. sex is more convenientthis way:)+ they can engage in something, although how detremental it is to society as a whole.

Nice photo. It's not explicit. Pls don't remove it. It's like a breath of fresh air in a country where humans are ashamed to be humans and are horrified about their bodies. I guess Maldivians wish to be in the bodies of angels which presumably has no genitals because there is no need for it? Anyway, what could be the most beautiful thing in the world other than a woman's breast? Not only the most beautiful but also the symbol of sustenance for I am sure most humans would have been suckled from their birth.

the government should definitely ban mig33 in maldives. its the main subject of infidelity among youth and adolescents. just imagine what children do online with their handsets! even i myself have encountered a girl on mig33 whose thinking was foul beyond my thoughts!

Vile bile rose in my throat after logging on to the group 'Maldivian gay fk' on Mig33 because the warning notice on it was not adequate (despite the name 'Maldivian gay fk') to deter curious minds like mine despite the Haabee I happen to be.

Somebody should 'sext' a pic to DR. Bari. Otherwise they wouldn't know this is going on, and hence can't take any action.

Parents are not aware what their child is quietly sitting and fingering away on thier mobile. Since the child is at home they are happy. What they don't know is that when the foreplay reaches a certain level, the child will slip off qiuetly for a couple of hours for an intense rendezvous. After that the child will again sit quietly with the mobile. The mobile phone is destroying a whole generation. Wake up Dr. Bari.

ZOMG! If you hadn't explained explicitly what sexting is I'd have never figured it out.

This is the first time I have actually head about the websites you mentioned. A quick google brings up many websites and forums which seem to be on the increase. I would assume that most of the girls who have their photos posted at these places have had it done so without their consent. No matter if they should not have allowed to have such photos taken in the first place, they still dont deserve this.

The government should be taking action on these sites including punishing those who run them. If they fail to do so then such material will only increase and ultimately get worse.

I would also suggest that the owner of the blog remove the name of the sites as this will allow people who have never heard of this to access them and as such is counter productive.
