Sibling Rivalry among Majududdine’s Descendants

The ongoing legal imbroglio between Yacht Tours and Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has drawn in quite a few of the descendants of Chief Justice Ibrahim Majududdine, an illustrious personage of the Meedhoo line of judges. Majududdine served during the reign of King Mohammed Imaduddine IV during the 19th Century. Many of his sons, grandsons and great grandsons held and continue to hold key positions in the legal system in Maldives.

As an interesting coincidence, Majududdine's great grand children are playing lead roles in all aspects of the Yacht Tours case. To start with, Yacht Tours owner Jabir is married to former Attorney General Dhiyana Saeed, a descendant of Majududdine. Tourism Minister Dr. Sawad is also married to a descendant of Majududdine. Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed is a direct descendant of Majududdine, and so is Attorney General Husnu Suood, who has recently stated he will play a role in the case. Prosecutor General Ahmed Muizzu is also a descendant of Majududdine, though so far there has been no role for him in the Yacht Tours case as no criminal liability has been identified so far.

The Yacht Tours drama is being enacted against the backdrop of the approaching appointment of the first Chief Justice of Maldives under the new Constitution. Some possible choices for the prestigious post include, Husnu Suood, Abdullah Saeed, Muizzu and Dhiyana. Other possible choices among the descendants include Hassan Saeed and Munavvar. Of course there are very strong contenders, who are not related to Majududdine, for example Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussain and Shaheen Hameed.

In the meanwhile the Yacht tours case appears to be hotting up. Minivan News reports that when Suood was asked about the inordinate delay in resolving the dispute he laid the responsibility squarely on the doorstep of Abdullah Saeed. "When the Chief Justice does his duty, then it will be solved," he said. Strong words indeed.

On his part Abdullah Saeed isn't backing down either. "We can't hold a stick to them [Civil Court] and tell them to speed it up," he retorted. "I don't accept the attorney general can make such statements. It amounts to undue influence over the courts." He explained the case was in the Civil Court's jurisdiction and the Supreme Court only had a supervisory role over that court.

In a small community like Maldives, I guess it will always be a family affair of some sort :)

Meedhoo people once produced great scholars. The islanders are still basking in past glory. Now they are controlled by rich business houses from Hulhudhoo such as DIMS, Sun Land and Megachip. It's time for them to face reality.

Al Suood's comments may have been inappropriate as suggested by Mr Saeed. Mr Saeed knows his subject well and his behaviour is inline with a professional judge.

Many people believe Suood is unable to adhere to basic ethical principles that should be observed by professional judges. He has often dealt with cases to win the case for his client irrespective of whether he knows that the client is the guilty party. Suood seems to be trying to get public attention.

sood is a good man.but i also think he's an attention seeker

to Annon at 11:47, I cant understand what your trying to prove by this statement. Meedhoo always had a wealth of scholars belonging to an upperclass of the island, who prejudiced the lower class and as their descendants dwindled and became less in number, so the so called scholars. had they done their part in serving the island wihtout prejudice the whole island would have benefited. Its too late to cry over split milk now. However, I praise the fellow Hulhudhoo society which never had this classes and prejudice and they had a more cohernat and attached social structure allowing them to rise higher. Scholars of Meedhoo royal class should be ashamed for their greed and selfishness.None of them ever have done a good deed to a local Meedhuan other than treating them as low class cast outs. They are now paying their price, as they have lost the goodwill of Meedhuans and is clearly shown by the votes gained by the fellow Hulhuduan MDP candidate. People are not blind and ignorant anymoe, they want loyal and dedicated people to serve them. Whats the worth of a scholar who cannot understand the feelings and aspirations of his fellow islanders. Meedhoo people has shown that in their rejection of Afeef. I hail the normal low class Meedhuans for understanding this.Pride and prejudice is the worst enemy of democracy.

Dr. Waheed, you also belong to the clan. So you must be favouring one of your relatives to become Chief Justice. But this time you will be dissapointed. Justice Faiz is head and shoulders above all your relatives.

Dr Waheed

Why don't you elucidate us on the SING DOLLAR 45 M investments made by Yameen, brother of the former President?

Anonymous said...

@ Anon 10:25, why is only part of the bank statement shown? Why is the remaining part hidden? Is it possible that the hidden details of investments (Account details) show that Yameen is innocent?

how can the hidden side of the bank statements can be innocent? NO definitely not! These are kick backs this chap has raked in from the lucrative oil deals while representing STO. Apparently, being a Muslim country, we get cheap oil from Middle East. How can he make USD 32 mn? Not even if he had worked 10 life times!!

Abdullah Waheed, you have at long last revealed your own self-serving motives. In the past you have written quite a number articles derogatory of Dhiyana Saeed. Now, it has become clear that those were meant to promote Husnu Suood who is your close relative and whom you say is a direct descendant of this majduddine. There is a conspiracy between you, munawwary and this Husnu Suood to keep these top posts in your family. Now, whether, Dhiyana Saeed was a far off descendant of this Majduddine man or not, she served with professionalism, honesty and integrity just as her grandfather did when he was the Attorney General under Mohamed Ameen's rule. I'm sure she knew that she could keep her job if, she kept saying yes to everything the President demanded but she chose the public interest over her own as Husnu Suood, Munawaru and yourself could never do. For that, I salute her.

I have also noticed that you have been writing a lot of blogs to promote Husnu Sood, at the same time, slandering Dhiyana with disguised subtlety. Digging up this Majduddine bloke is an attempt at emphasizing just how illustrious your relative Husnu Suood's lineage is. Trace Dhiyana's ancestry and you will find far more illustrious personage and contrary to popular understanding, she does not hail from Addu alone. She is, after all, the great grand daughter of kanzudhoshuge Seedhi and Bodugalumaafaiyge Fathmath Didi and is entitled to lay claim to Male beyfulhism as anyone. But we don't care about lineage. So keep your Majduddin where he belongs. The case between Yacht Tours and MTDC is neither a Majududdine saga nor a clash between dynasties.

references like these to Majudideen is Meedoo crap (like the one they pass near the shore). Sickening when Addu people thinks they are some kind of elite...

What's next???......Maumoon is a direct descendant of Dharumavantha Rasgefaanu??....and Anni dscended from Koimalaa Kalo??......

To be honest, I don't give a shit about where these people descended from. What's important is what they do, not their fathers or dynasties.

Dhiyana was leveraging her position as AG to defend her husnbands business interests but for some people it was honesty. Then Husnusood is well known laywer who has defended the most notorious people in our society and his comments in MDP jalsa saying that people who didnt vote for him ....And did he leave MDP when Munavvar lost the race for that partys presidency?Well all this goes to show that the chair u sitting may be big but does it really suit u?

anonymous said...

Anonymous, I cannot accept that Dhiyana leveraged her position as AG to serve her husband's business interests because logic dictates that if she was indeed using her position, she would have gottten close to the president by twisting the law and okaying the President's every move. She must have known that her positions would isolate her from the president and lead to dismissal which would most certainly not put her in a positioin to defend her husband's interests as you suggest. Moreover, the positions she has taken in her capacity as the AG are undoubtably sound and fair. But ofcourse, you cant't please everyone and there will always be someone who will cry foul.

To anon 12: 36-

LOL... who keeps kickbacks in a premier account in HSBC singapore...that too in one's own name and taken care of by a well known firm?

Except to those blinded by prejudice it is quite obvious this is an STO investment account opned when Yameen was Chairman. The correspnding accounts can be seen in STO. This is the truth that the guy who 'revealed' the statement was hiding.

Anni wants to give chief justice position to former minister Dr jameel. Anni said in the letter ,he hopes to see Jameel serving the Govt in another capacity soon. He meant chief justice .

Bodufenvaluge Seedhi's garandfather was this same Majududine. Seena Zahir is also a direct descendant of Majududine. Moomina Haleem, was also a direct descendant of Majududine.

The last surviving grandchild of Majudidine was Mr Abdulla Nafiz who recently passed away.

kekekeke... why on earth should STO's investment account bear Abdulla Yameen's name? It should be STO's name. Now this guy has imported a lot of his personal stuff to build his house (wife or wotever!!) through STO while he was the chairman !!!!

We just want a Chief Justice with honesty, integrity, who can preside over the Judiciary of this country. We do not care who the person or from where he comes from. But the truth is that this person Dr Jameel or Al Sood cannot be classified under integrety aspect if we just take one aspect. Therefore, the seat should be given some one other than these two gentlemen.

Anonymous said...

Anni and Alsuood talk similar. Both of them will hit it off well.

Anonymous said...

Anni said he will show everyone how bad he really is. Al Sood is an example of how bad Anni can be.
