Arresting Drug Barons and Controlling Drug Trade

Whether the number of drug barons in the Maldives is six, or ten, or fifty or even hundred depends solely on how one defines a drug baron. For example if one defined a drug baron as someone who had more than $1,000,000 in assets believed to be the proceeds from illicit drug trafficking, then the alleged second drug baron, who was recently arrested by the police, won't qualify as one. But if the defining limit was set at $500,000 he could be one. And if one set the limit at $50,000, there could be more than 100 barons.

Statistically speaking one should set the defining limit at such a level that the drug barons so identified would collectively be responsible for most of the drug trade, say more than 75%. If one ignores this precaution, one could end up in an embarrassing situation where all the barons are arrested and the drug trade continues 'business as usual'.

In the run up to the parliamentary elections, President's Press Secretary Mohamed Zuhair told Minivan News that arresting the six drug barons would effectively stop the supply of narcotics into the Maldives. We hope he is right.

The drug barons in the Maldives are the elite business men who have strong influence in both the current and previous government. These people are the one who control the economy of Maldives. The government knows who these barons are and is feared for these people. This country is now depending on drug money! There is no political will and guts in the government to arrest these tycoons and root out the menace of drug trafficking once and for all.

Most people with inside information say Maldives drug business is not dominated by any big drug lords. There are a large number of small dealers who have connections with guys abroad who send the stuff. So arresting the 6 will have no effect at all.

To the anonymous post at 12:43 Pm.

The elite people you say may have got starting capital from drug trade. But they are not in the business any longer. Now they are in legit business. Today's drug dealers also will graduate to the elite level and give up drug trade. Then others will replace them.

The will power of the Maldivians to eradicate the misfortune created amongst them by themselves is obvious in this example. Both the dictator and the gangster governments spend millions by deploying heavily armed forces in the most afflicted islands of this nation. The result of their effective patrolling is seen by the ever increasing number of children drwan to this vabaa, hte ever increasing number of accidents and gangster fights, etc. Its a problem of the evil minds dominating this society, the dominating effect of intelligent male minds on the fish brain of the islanders for thrity years combined with the same dirty work of the gangster government in the name of demo crazy.

President's press secretary is not sane. If any one has used drugs for a long time one will not be in the right frame of mind.I read somewhere Press secretary has extra large balls and he keeps tripping on his balls.

DRUG users and Dealers is being Topic of "Holhuahi", Living room and surprisingly today in many class rooms. Arresting and punishing them seem promising however it is trough awareness that most of them Vanish. I am proud to say Many recovering addicts have found a way out and they soon wont let any of their suffering friend to be haunted for these Barons financial gains. Many progress on going, Honestly I don't think this would help in longer run.I believe suffering addicts should be Treated rather than Punishment or Isolation which nearly kills them. ..XOBA..
